WANA (May 10) – Less than a week after the arrest of seven Iranian nationals, UK police have once again detained another Iranian citizen under the pretext of anti-terrorism investigations.

On Friday night, London police announced that a 31-year-old Iranian man was arrested on May 9 in the northwest area of the British capital.

According to British newspapers, security forces claimed the individual was arrested under the “National Security Act 2023.” Following the arrest, officers searched two residential properties in northwest London.

This development comes after UK police stated on Sunday, May 5, that eight individuals—including seven Iranians—had been arrested on charges of “conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack” and “crimes against national security.” The news prompted reactions from Iranian officials.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi dismissed what he called fabricated stories about the arrested Iranian nationals, stating, “The timing of these arrests and the lack of cooperation from the UK suggest that something may be happening behind the scenes.”

However, London authorities emphasized that the latest arrest is not linked to another anti-terrorism operation carried out last Saturday across different parts of the UK, during which four Iranians were detained for allegedly planning a terrorist attack, and another individual was arrested under the Criminal Evidence Act.

Some British media outlets claimed the alleged target of the planned attack may have been the Israeli regime’s embassy in London.
